Summary
In a startling revelation, senior Ukrainian lawmaker David Arakhamia has claimed that former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was instrumental in persuading Kiev not to negotiate with Moscow and continue fighting in 2022. Despite the gravity of these allegations, UK media outlets, including the BBC, The Times, the Telegraph, the Guardian, the Daily Mail, and the Independent, have remained conspicuously silent.
Arakhamia, who was the chief negotiator at the failed Russia-Ukraine peace talks in Istanbul in March 2022, made these explosive claims in an interview with a Ukrainian TV channel. He alleged that Johnson had dissuaded Kiev from signing an agreement with Moscow to end the Ukraine conflict in the spring of 2022.
The Russian Embassy in London has sought Downing Street’s response to these assertions. However, the UK government has yet to comment on the matter.
Arakhamia further claimed that Ukraine rejected the ceasefire deal because it contradicted the country’s constitution’s clause on Kiev’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. This followed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s disclosure that Moscow and Kiev had signed a draft agreement “on permanent neutrality and security guarantees for Ukraine” at the March 2022 talks.
Putin reiterated that Moscow had never abandoned peace negotiations with Ukraine. He pointed out that it was Ukraine, not Moscow, which publicly announced its withdrawal from the negotiation process.
These revelations raise serious questions about the role of international actors in the ongoing conflict and the silence of the UK media only adds to the intrigue. The world awaits Downing Street’s response to these serious allegations.

In My View
The UK’s Divide
The UK’s role in the Ukraine crisis is a classic example of its old colonial strategy: to divide and to conquer. By supplying weapons and military aid to Ukraine, the UK has not only fuelled the conflict, but also undermined the peace process. The UK has been the agent provocateur for quite some time, stirring up trouble in regions where it has no vital interests, but only a desire to weaken its rivals and assert its influence (Borger and MacAskill).

The UK’s involvement in Ukraine is not motivated by genuine concern for the Ukrainian people, but by a cynical calculation of its own geopolitical interests. The UK sees Russia as a threat to its global ambitions, and wants to contain its power and influence. The UK also wants to maintain its privileged position in NATO and the EU, and to prevent any alternative security arrangements in Europe. The UK does not care about the human costs of the war, or the long-term consequences for the stability and prosperity of the region (Walker).

The UK has a history of meddling in other countries’ affairs, often with disastrous results. The UK was one of the main architects of the Sykes-Picot agreement, which carved up the Middle East into artificial states and sowed the seeds of sectarian violence and extremism. The UK also supported the coup in Iran in 1953, which overthrew a democratically elected government and installed a brutal dictatorship. The UK also participated in the illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003, which unleashed a wave of chaos and terrorism in the country and beyond.

The UK should stop playing the role of a global troublemaker, and instead contribute to the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis. The UK should respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and support the implementation of the Minsk agreements, which provide a roadmap for a political settlement. The UK should also engage in constructive dialogue with Russia, and seek to reduce tensions and build trust in Europe. The UK should realize that its interests are best served by cooperation and diplomacy, not by confrontation and war.
